I’m going to pretend that it doesn’t bother me that I haven’t written for a while. It’s been a month. A year ago I wrote almost 2-3 times a week, nowadays, not so much. Why? Different types of pressures in my life and have a less structured workday as construction work starts to dwindle, or substantially slow down. Fewer things on my to-do list.
In construction, the trick is not to have a very long tail of things to sort out so that you can move on to the next ‘project’ as soon as possible and I’m still within reasonable tail-end schedule but at times the unstructured days makes things a bit difficult to have a routine — for example, writing or exercising.
Some construction updates
Landscape: Snow has melted, around 95% of ground is free of snow/ice. Some lakes are still slightly frozen and the northern hills still have a bit of snow. This means that all the crap that was beautifully covered by snow is now visible — this week we agreed a landscaping plan so now we’re just waiting for the works to start.
Roof: A massive headache is still finishing the roof works. Once that work is somehow agreed and scheduled I’ll be able to ship that stress packet to the past. It’s one of the last stress packets for construction work.
Admin: Preparing for our decision appeal. We’re over the hill in terms of submission documentation so soon it’s out of our hands.
Interior: Doors, furniture and final finishing touches still ongoing… new furniture arriving within this month and then we’ll pause a bit to see how things settle.
Imperfections: I’m still struggling to deal with some of the imperfections of the house. But slowly I’m forgetting things as they’re being ‘covered’ by furniture and general messiness in the house. As the snow melts I also notice how spring here is a time for natural regeneration. I can see the ground returning to it’s ‘original’ state after years of being stepped on with heavy machinery, logs etc. Ideally, this house, would slowly become part of the landscape, part of the site, both from a materials and design standpoint.
Moving in artwork: Before the sliding interior doors are installed we’ll refrain from moving in most of the artwork. Still some dusty work to be done so we’re taking it easy.
Anyway, how am I?
I’m doing ok.
Preparing for quite a bit of travel time in June. These next two weeks will be the time to prepare for that. Design work takes me to Porto.
Then a week of multi-day hiking in northern Italy to change perspectives, test some outdoor gear and understand how Hansaram can do ‘remotes’. Expanding operations to other locations will take time and so we’re trying to investigate early on these remote work projects with a few established operators.
That’s about it. Hope you’re also doing well.
Thanks for subscribing, thanks for reading.
Appreciate it a lot.
